Speaking in Tongues: It's Cooler than You Think

Date: Wednesday, March 29, 2006
Speaker: Michael Fisher
Title: Speaking in Tongues: It's Cooler than You Think

Speaking in tongues is one of the most powerful and under-used gifts God has given us as Christians. While prophecy and healing and miracles are all meant to edify others, tongues is the one gift that builds ourselves up. And, yet, very few people actually treat it this way. From old-line Pentecostals to third wave Evangelicals to Charismatic Catholics, we all believe we can speak in tongues, and we all do it occasionally, but if it's the amazing gift that God says it is, we ought to be doing it a whole lot more. Speaking in tongues is an amazing gift; it's where you can get built up and encouraged like nothing else.

Keep it Simple Stupid

Date: Sunday, March 26, 2006
Speaker: Brian Shuler
Title: Keep it Simple Stupid

Life is complicated. Throw in serving God and things can seem even harder. Just open up Leviticus and read some of the laws there to get overwhelmed with rules and regulations on sacrifices, interpersonal relationships, governmental authority, tabernacle maintenance, even haircuts. What's it all boil down to? Jesus over and over again kept bringing things back to simplicity for us. Love God. Love people. Everything else comes from this.

Principles of War

Date: Wednesday, March 22, 2006
Speaker: Michael Fisher
Title: Principles of War

As Christians, it's imperative to understand that we're in a war that is just as real as the War on Terror, World War II, or Vietnam. The Bible talks about hordes of enemies that want to keep us from saving the world and bringing God's kingdom to earth. In this teaching, Michael talks about various principles of warfare, from accepting that we're in a war to realizing our enemy is satan and his demons to knowing that the final result is a guaranteed win for us. You've gotta get pumped up and equipped to win this war, but you WILL win it.

Should Women Keep Silent at Church?

Date: Sunday, March 19, 2006
Speaker: Michael Fisher
Title: Should Women Keep Silent at Church?

The role of women in church has been debated for thousands of years, with people taking ardent stances on all sides of the issue. Whether you believe a woman should never speak at church, or you believe that all are the same in Jesus, or you fall somewhere in the middle, you will enjoy this teaching that brings up some of the hard points and works through the issues. By making you laugh and digging into the Bible, Michael builds a case for women who are just as radical, God-loving, passionate, and involved in church as the men at the same time as they are lovingly submitted to their husbands. This is a great teaching that will probably blow some fuses, in a good way.

Tag Team Message

Date: Sunday, March 12, 2006
Speakers: Brian Shuler, Jake Stimpson, Scott Youngberg
Title: Tag Team Message

This is a tag team message from Sunday, March 12, 2006. Cornerstone elder Brian Shuler began the day with "Whose Church is it Anyway?" a challenging call to take ownership in the church. It's not just the pastor or the elders and staff that make a church successful - it's having a solid, united body of members who are all doing their part. After Brian, youth director Jake Stimpson gave a prophetic call to cry out on behalf of the church with his message, "The Sons of Israel Cried Out." Just as the Israelites cried out to God in Exodus, the only way we're gonna see change is if we cry out to God today. Deacon Scott Youngberg finished the day with a personal testimony of seeing God move on his behalf when he started crying out for change instead of just shrinking back in defeat and gloom.
