Church is more than just an hour or two on Sundays, a mid-week Bible study, and the occasional outreach. The church, as God intends it, is to be a covenant community, built around relationships based on self-sacrifice and love instead of superficiality and selfishness. God created us to want and need community - the church is supposed to make it happen.
